Timeless Value Investing Principles of Low-Risk and Long-Term Capital Growth.
My name is David Thomas and I am the editor of Shares and Stock Markets – a stock market value investing website for long-term private investors who are investing for retirement.
The government’s current plans means that you are to retire at 68 before claiming the state pension and if you are a teenager the retirement age will likely be 70.
Luckily a Self Invested Person Pension (SIPP) can let you retire at 55 (57 from 2028) – which means if you are or would like to become an enterprising investor you can shave a massive 13 years off of your working life.
The basic premise of I do is:
- Look for undervalued low-risk stocks
- Purchase them for my SIPP
- Write about purchasing them for my SIPP
- Keeping a tab on the performance of my SIPP via the portfolio
In addition I write articles on individual companies based the Shares and Stock Markets Value Investing Strategy assessing their investment merits based on a review of the financial statements including what the CEO’s strategic direction is for the company.
I’m not a paid hack and none of the articles on Shares and Stock Markets are sponsored in any way and neither will they be.
Writers for other publications simply do not have the editorial freedom to critically assess listed companies much less place their money where their mouth is.
Shares and Stock Markets is different since the SASM Portfolio is based on investments in my own SIPP so I have a vested interest in remaining impartial and critical of the investments I make because I do not want to lose money.
To see the results of my SIPP investments check out the performance of each closing stock trade.
Above all Shares and Stock Markets is about empowering private investors with independent market insights that provide the best low-risk stock market opportunities on the London Stock Exchange.

thirty forty something husband and a father of two and I live and work in the UK and have been investing in stocks since 2001.
At its core the The Shares and Stock Markets philosophy can be described as an old-school Grahamite value-orientated investing strategy – one which focuses on low-risk and long-term capital gains.
This means that I buy stocks mainly in mid to large cap companies when my research determines them to be undervalued relative to their intrinsic value and sell them when they reach intrinsic value.
I also tend to hold them for years rather than weeks or months – but trimming my position sizes when market new market opportunities present themselves.
I share these stock purchases and more with on this website which is usually when a stock price has suffered an unjustified decline with the expectation that prices will revert to their intrinsic value over the long-term.
The Shares and Stock Markets Story
In 2012 I launched The Shares and Stock Markets Blog to focus on all things stock market investing and to share my experiences and continue to do so today.
Based on the investment style of Benjamin Graham of balance sheet strength and visibility of earnings with an emphasis on developed market UK mid to large cap stocks – I’m constantly on the look out for pockets of value.
I am not registered with the Financial Conduct Authority of The United Kingdom, the Securities and Exchange Commission of the United States or any other financial regulatory authority in any other jurisdiction.
The content on this blog is not investment advice it is merely opinion and you should always do your own research.
